Mufasa didn't look or act sick at all the days leading to his passing. He was meowing a lot more than usual but when we carried him he would quiet down and that was that.
On Friday afternoon, when Azwaj carried him, Mufasa purred as usual but Azwaj noticed a slight difference in how much he weigh in his arms. That is when we suspected something was wrong. However, Mufasa didn't look like he was in pain or anything. In fact he was chasing his sister around after we fed him that day. It was later the evening that we found him looking rather pale and the area around his gums were all white. We started giving him "Nutrigel" a food supplement and syringing him with glucose to keep his energy up.
Then, later, when I was vacuuming the house, I noticed a foul smell coming from the where the litter bin was and I noticed bloody stool near the litter bin. Mufasa was very near to it and upon inspection I found that his rear legs were bloody and so we know that it was him. We cleaned him up and continue with the rounds of fluid every two hours and one round of "Nutrigel". It felt like forever to wait for the vet to open the next day.
We got ready early and left the house around 9am. 10 minutes later, the vet was already attending to Mufasa. The vet didn't know what was wrong with him but said that Mufasa already went into shock. He would need to carry out test to determine the problem but seeing that Mufasa was already 16 years old, the prognosis might not be good and there is only 40% chance of survival.
We asked him to do what was necessary. He immediately put Mufasa on the drip, jab him with some medicine and took some blood from his neck. All this while I was like "what are we doing to this poor boy? He looks like he was already in so much pain". But I know we had to do something.
We left the hospital after we held Mufasa and told him how much we love him one last time. The vet told us he would call back in the afternoon with the results of the blood test.
We got home and try to catch some much needed sleep. But as suspected, we can't. At around 12noon, the vet called with bad news. Mufasa had died! I immediately welled up and started crying and I told the vet we would be there ASAP.
According to the vet, they found nothing wrong with his organs. They suspect it could be bloood coagulating problem or internal bleeding. However as Mufasa passed on even before any other test could be conducted, he would never really know the problem. We thanked him, collected Mufasa body and went on to my in-laws house who has graciously allowed us to bury him in their garden.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all my friends who has been there for me through this sad time in both A's and my life. Thank you for your kinds words, your tears, your support and especially your understanding. Special thanks to GP, Shemah, Monica and Rosidah for their special post.
We love you so much and I'm sure Mufasa, even as I am writing this right now, is looking down at us from heaven, smiling and knowing that is still loved and remembered fondly by all of us :)
Cheerio...
